  •  Upon entering and leaving the training hall, bow to the portrait of the Founding Grandmaster, if no portrait is present, bow to the front of the hall to pay respect to the Founding Grandmaster NGUYEN Loc.

  • Before class starts, upon arriving, bow to all Instructors and Masters present, and greet your fellow students.

  • If you are late, go to the front and bow to the Instructor or Master in charge of the class, then bow to the class.

  •  During class, whenever you need to address an Instructor or Master, bow to them before and after addressing them to show them your respect.

  •  If you need to fix your uniform, always kneel down on your right knee before proceeding to fix your uniform.

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF VOVINAM?
It means the Martial Art of Vietnam.
VO - The art of self-defense or martial art.
VINAM – An abbreviation of Vietnam, where Vovinam originated from.

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF VIET VO DAO?
It means the Vietnamese Martial Art’s Way of Life.
VIET - Stands for Vietnam.
VO - The art of self-defense.
DAO - "way of life" or philosophy.

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THE RED & BLUE CIRCLE?
The Red & Blue Circle is what is known in Vietnamese as an Âm-Dương, it represents the balance of opposing concepts that are found throughout Vovinam Viet Vo Dao. For example, the physical aspect of Vovinam is balanced out by the mental aspect of Viet Vo Dao. Another example is the ‘Hard & Soft’ concept that is the basis of all Vovinam techniques. In the middle of the Âm-Dương is the map of Vietnam, to remind us of the origins of Vovinam Viet Vo Dao.

THE FOUNDING HISTORY OF VOVINAM VIET VO DAO

  •  Vovinam Viet Vo Dao was founded in 1938.

  •  Vovinam Viet Vo Dao was founded by late Founding Great Grandmaster NGUYEN Loc.

  •  The Founding Great Grandmaster NGUYEN Loc passed away in 1960.

  •  When the Founding Great Grandmaster passed away, his belt was passed on to Great Grandmaster LE Sang.

  •  In 2010, Great Grandmaster LE Sang passed away, and the Great Grandmaster title was retired.
